I’ve been thinking about getting an MBA lately, so this morning I took the GMAT test. The GMAT test is required for admission into MBA programs where the degrees aren’t found in a box of Lucky Charms. Below is a synopsis of my results, confirming what the world already knows.

Engineers: Good at math, turrrible at righting.

Super Snake and a TT S7 for your time.

good luck with the process! It can be a grueling process, but it’ll be rewarding!

That sounds like my fear too. I’m very strongly considering an MBA. I need to look into what study materials I’ll need for the GMAT. I got a BS in chemistry so I’ll sort of be like you. Math: good, English: absolutely terrible.

I hope so.

When I registered I had the option of downloading some free software which came with two free practice tests.

pick the school very carefully

I have an MBA, to me it just felt like I took a few more business classes (finance major)

if you are an engineer major it’d probably benefit you more

the GMAT score didnt really matter that much for me

Interesting. Are you planning to get any other study materials? I’ve been looking online and there’s so many options I don’t even know where to start.

No, I signed up last week, Wednesday or Thursday, took one practice test and went in this morning. My wife spent a few weeks studying for it.

For me, the driver is ROI is career progression and getting paid more. I have yet to find a definitive answer.

It will be a complete departure. My undergrad is Mechanical Engineering, I took Macro and Micro economics. That is the extent of my business exposure.

My driver is ROI though, I can cruise in my field, make solid money with or without it. But does it help me to advance into management to make even more money? Maybe, I haven’t found a large demand for ME’s with an MBA.

put it this way, if your company is paying for it and you have some spare time, do it, its not hard (almost too easy) it looks good on the resume

In my world MBAs mean squat. A lot of frustrated junior engineers go get them (this goes for engineering masters as well) hoping to skip some rungs on the ladder but it doesn’t work that way round these parts. If you can do it on the company’s dime without cutting back on projects go for it, otherwise think long and hard.

The only consistent way I’ve seen folks ladder jump is relocating and taking a job a tier up at a competitor (or customer if they have in house positions) then move back a few years later. If they’re hot runners they’ll land a couple rungs higher than where they would have progressed working the internal promotion process.

I should clarify, I’m not expecting to go straight to the top, just making myself more marketable to a potential management position in the future.

Oh yeah I definitely agree with the ROI part. That my only motivation. Career progression and more dolla’ dolla’ bills, y'all.
